Mitigation

New England Radon, Ltd. has a highly experienced radon remediation staff. Since 1986, we have installed thousands of successful high quality systems. We provide quality workmanship with guaranteed results.

RADON IN AIR REDUCTION

Based on a diagnostic evaluation, New England Radon, Ltd. designs the most appropriate system for the building. Providing the customer with a cost quotation and a description of the recommended system.

The most cost effective and successful method of remediation is the sub-slab depressurization system (SSD). The SSD system draws air from under the slab or from under a radon polyethylene barrier (if there is no slab) and exhausts it above the roof line through a PVC pipe and a specially designed in line blower. The exhaust of these systems can be installed on an outside wall or internally through closets into the attic and then through the roof. An alterative method, if practical, is into the garage and then through the roof of the garage. These systems are virtually maintenance free. A visual indicator is provided to allow the homeowner to see if the system is operating properly.

When the SSD system is impractical, as is the case where there is an inaccessible crawl space, a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) can be used. These systems work by changing the air in the basement with fresh outside air, which is heated by transferring the heat from the warm inside air to the incoming outside air. Additionally these systems can be adjusted to provide a slight increase in pressure in the basement. The radon reduction thus obtained will be twofold, one due to the dilution of the radon and the other by the retarding effect of the pressure increase.

RADON IN WATER REDUCTION

Based on the concentration of radon in your well water, New England Radon, Ltd. recommends the most appropriate system to reduce the radon to safe levels. Providing you with a cost quotation and a description of the recommended system.

For concentrations below 5000 pCi/L one of the recommended methods is the whole house Granular-activated charcoal filter system (GAC). This system is installed with a manually re-flushable pre sediment filter to protect the charcoal. The efficiency of these systems is between 90 and 97% reduction of the radon. Additionally these systems remove VOC’S and hydrogen sulfide. The lifetime of the charcoal is determined by the amount of water usage and the quality of the water. The recommended charcoal change period will be based on the various factors affecting your particular needs and on an annual radon in water testing. The most recommended radon in water reduction method is the water aeration method. New England Radon has developed, patented, manufactures and installs a family or Radon Aeration Systems Aerosparge to cover the needs of any radon level encountered for household use as well as large capacity systems for commercial applications. These systems are competitively priced and reduce the levels of radon 99%+ as well as removing VOC’S, Hydrogen Sulfide, Methane gas, etc..
